The training swimming pool in Gyergyószentmiklós (Gheorgheni) has already been filled with water, clearly showing that people will be able to swim in the first indoor swimming pool of the Gyergyó Basin very soon. Furthermore, the construction of another swimming pool in Gyergyóremete (Remetea) has already started too.
An old dream is coming true in Gyergyószék (Gyergyó Seat), as, apart from a few smaller private pools, no swimming pool or outdoor bath for the summertime has ever previously existed in the area. Now, only the finishing touches are left to complete on the first pool in Gyergyószentmiklós.
It could be open in just a few weeks, but swimmers have to wait until the loosening of the pandemic restrictions.
Gyergyószék leader Tihamér Barti, from the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (otherwise known by its Hungarian acronym RMDSZ), told szekelyhon.ro that two and a half years ago, there were far more in Gyergyószentmiklós who doubted than believed that the town would ever have its own swimming pool, but now it can be seen that the promise made back then was valid.
“This development fits well into the concept and strategy that aims to elevate Gyergyószék.”
– said Barti, emphasizing that a couple of years ago when they first drew up the concept about the area’s economic and infrastructure development, they paid attention to sports as well. “We determined the construction of swimming pools in the area as a priority, as this would give locals the opportunity for a healthier lifestyle. This is something that was greatly missing before, but now we are close to the day when one swimming pool can open, and already the second one is also under construction,” he said.
Last Thursday, Tihamér Berti, together with Mayor Albert Elemér Laczkó, visited the other swimming pool being built in Gyergyóremete. This started later than the one in Gyergyószentmiklós, but the work is also on schedule here.
The new swimming pools will host swimming lessons for students at schools in Gyergyószék, similar to the already-operating ice skating lesson program; however, the pool will be open to the public as well.
