Hungarians living abroad can also register for COVID-19 vaccination in Hungary

Starting Monday, transborder Hungarians can also register for the COVID-19 vaccination in Hungary. Those Hungarians who live outside of the territory of Hungary but would like to be vaccinated in Hungary can register via the vakcinainfo.gov.hu portal.

Starting Monday (May 17), Hungarian citizens living outside of Hungary can also register for the coronavirus vaccination in Hungary after the Hungarian authorities authorized it for those Hungarians who have Hungarian citizenship but do not have a Hungarian health insurance number.

The Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán, even mentioned the opportunity in a Facebook post, saying:

“Starting Monday, all Hungarians can register for the vaccination, wherever they may live.”

He also talked about this topic last Friday on Kossuth Rádió:

“We have reached that point that starting Monday, we would like to encourage Hungarians living outside of the territory of Hungary to register. So if somebody lives anywhere in the world, no matter if it is, for example, Tierra del Fuego or Csíkszereda (Miercurea Ciuc), but cannot receive the vaccination where he lives, or has more trust in Hungary, then come to us, register on the website dedicated for this purpose, and get an appointment and location; and when he arrives here, he will get the vaccine,” said Viktor Orbán.

Hungarian COVID immunity certificate for all Hungarian citizens

Registration is now available at the vakcinainfo.gov.hu webpage even for those Hungarian citizens who do not have a Hungarian health insurance card. Of course, those Hungarians living outside of Hungary who are vaccinated inside Hungary will receive a Hungarian COVID immunity certificate.

Furthermore, according to plans, starting also this week, every Hungarian citizen who has been vaccinated abroad — in an EU, OECD, or NATO member state or in Russia or China — can also receive a Hungarian COVID immunity certificate after presenting his vaccination confirmation documents in a government office in Hungary, said Minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás last week.
