Three Petőfi Music Awards for Transylvanian Bagossy Brothers Company

The Transylvanian Bagossy Brothers Company won the Hungarian Petőfi Music Award in three categories; the awards were presented during a gala ceremony that aired on Duna Television last Saturday night.

The Petőfi Music Awards and the small statues representing Hungarian poet Petőfi Sándor were handed over for the fifth time, this time in twelve categories.

Since its foundation in 2016, what has become one of the most prestigious music awards shows in Hungary has typically been held during the VOLT and Strand Summer Festivals; but this year, due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, it was held without an audience in a studio.

Norbert Bagossy won Male Performer of the Year, while Magdi Rúzsa was named Female Performer of the Year. The Band of the Year award was given to the Bagossy Brothers Company, which also took home the award for Video of the Year with its song “Visszajövök” (I’ll be back”). The Acoustic Concert of the Year award was received by Ferenc Demjén.

The nominees for the prizes were chosen by a jury of producers, musicians, journalists, and concert and festival organizers; they chose from the most-played 100 songs between March 1, 2019, and March 1, 2020.

Bagossy Brothers Company is a successful Transylvanian band known for its alternative/pop-rock, folk-rock, and indie-folk music. Founded back in 2013 in Gyergyószentmiklós/Gheorgheni, the band’s name comes from the two main members of the band: Norbert and László Bagossy.
