American heavy/trash metal band, Metallica donated EUR 250,000 for the construction of the first Pediatric Oncology and Radiotherapy Hospital in Romania – announced the project initiator Dăruiește Viață charity organization on Thursday.
Wednesday night Metallica gave a sold out concert in Bucharest in the National Arena, but before the show they even had time for a charitable event. Charity organization Dăruiește Viață (Give Life Association) published a photo on its Facebook page, showing the band members and the representatives of the organization holding a giant check, with the following text on it:
All Within My Hands Foundation –founded by Metallica- “proudly donates to Asociția Dăruiește Viață 250.000 Euro for the construction of the First Pediatric Oncology and Radiotherapy Hospital in Romania”
Statistics show that in Romania the cancer survival rate is the lowest one in the European Union and child mortality is twice as high as the European average is. The charity organization started a fundraising in 2017 for the building of the first Children Oncology Hospital in Romania and until today from 260.000 private individuals and from almost 2.000 companies about 10 million euros arrived for this purpose.

The construction of the hospital started in the middle of last year in Bucharest and completion of the six stories high building is planned next year.
“We have never even dared to dream about such a donation”
–said Carmen Uscatu who founded the charity organization in 2012 together with Oana Gheorghiu. Two years later the Romanian government in 2014 promised building four regional hospitals in the country -partly with the help of EU money- but none of the constructions have even started yet until now.
