During its Monday meeting, the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (known by its Hungarian acronym of RMDSZ) nominated a new secretary of state to the ministry of Youth and Sports, RMDSZ announced in a statement cited by the Maszol.ro news portal. Izabella Kacsó-Doboly (37) is to replace Csongor Oltean (32), who resigned on June 4 after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
Izabella Kacsó-Doboly is a lawyer and was born in the central Transylvanian city of Vajdahunyad (Hunedoara, Eisenmarkt). In the Vajdahunyad region, Hungarians are a dispersed minority.
Kacsó-Doboly graduated from the Faculty of Law of Babeș–Bolyai University in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) and from the Faculty of Science and Art at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, in the Department of International Relations and European Studies. She completed her master’s degree in Kolozsvár and Petrozsény (Petroşani).
Already in the 1990s, Kacsó-Doboly took part in the organizational life of Hungarian high school students in Vajdahunyad and Déva (Deva). Between 2001 and 2002, she was the vice-president of the Association of Hungarian High School Students in Romania (known by its Hungarian acronym of MAKOSZ), and from 2012 to 2015, she was the president of the committee for internal code inspection of the Hungarian Youth Conference (MIÉRT). Since 2010, she has been working at the Hunyad County Sports and Youth Directorate, first as a youth counselor, then as a deputy director, and currently as a director.
The former RMDSZ secretary to the ministry of Youth and Sports, Csongor Oltean, was caught driving under the influence of alcohol on June 4, during a roadside inspection in Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sfântu Gheorghe). The politician has publicly admitted his actions and announced on his Facebook page that he will accept the consequences for his mistake. He also added that drunk driving is not acceptable under any circumstances, and it is especially incompatible with the qualities expected in a public figure. RMDSZ President Hunor Kelemen also announced on his Facebook page on June 4 that Oltean’s actions were unacceptable and that he has accepted his resignation without any further comment on the issue.
RMDSZ has three ministers, one deputy prime minister and about a dozen secretaries of state in the three-party government of Florin Cîţu.
