German man has no idea how he got to Romania, calls emergency number

A bizarre situation happened in Reșița (Resicabánya in Hungarian), a town in the western part of Romania, close to the Serbian border. A confused German citizen called the 112 emergency number saying that he did not know where he was. The gendarmes found him cold in a churchyard.

“I do not know where I am. I left Germany, and I don’t know where I’ve ended up,” said the German man on the 112 emergency number, which he called after arriving at the Doman housing project in Reșița.

He said he had no idea how he ended up at the place where he was at the time, and all he could remember was that he entered Romania from Hungary at the Nagylak crossing point on foot, with only a backpack and two bags.

Gendarmes found the man in the courtyard of a church; he had spent the night on a makeshift bed outside and was not in very good condition because of the cold weather.

“After checking the doors and windows, as there were no signs of forced entry to the church, the Caraș-Severin (Krassó-Szörény in Hungarian) Ambulance Service was called to the scene to transport the man, who needed medical care, to the hospital,” said the representative of the gendarmerie to mediafax.ro.

The authorities also checked whether the man was on the missing persons list, but his name did not appear in the search.
