Thousands queue up for holy water in Temesvár

Thousands queued up at the downtown Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Temesvár/Timișoara on Epiphany Day to get their serving of holy water, local news portal tion.ro reports.

The water was blessed in a morning service conducted by Îps Ioan (pictured above), Romanian Orthodox archbishop of Temesvár and bishop of the western Romanian Bánát/Banat region.

In preparation for the rush, priests of the cathedral prepared 4,000 liters of holy water. On Epiphany Day, Romanian Orthodox believers sprinkle the water on their houses, yards, gardens and even farmland for divine blessing, protection and better crops.

The service was also attended by Valery Kuzmin, the Russian Federation’s ambassador to Romania.
