Fire in Romania’s largest fertilizer factory

A fire broke out in the ammonium department of the largest Romanian fertilizer producer on Monday. According to the management of the Azomureș fertilizer factory, located in Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș, nobody in the area was in any danger.

The Maros County Fire Department’s communiqué stated that the subtracted hydrogen caught on fire after coming into direct contact with air in the high-pressure ammonia synthesis converter during the ammonia-producing process.

“The hydrogen at 140 bars was self-igniting after coming in contact with the air. The fire then extended to the nearby measurement and control devices. There are no victims; the pressure is 0.8 bar and decreasing.”

– announced the Maros Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) on Monday.
