The permanent steering committee of RMDSZ has finalized its candidate list for the May 2019 European elections – the list is headed by economist Gyula Winkler (54), who has been an MEP since Romania joined the European Union in 2007 and was also minister for IT and telecommunications between August and December 2017.
Second on the list is journalist Loránt Vincze (41), President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). They are followed by RMDSZ Vice-president Csilla Hegedüs, Hungarian Youth Conference President Csongor Oltean and current MEP Csaba Sógor. Based on the ratio of the Hungarian minority in Romania, RMDSZ has a realistic chance of sending two MEPs to the European Parliament.
The list will also have to be approved by RMDSZ deputies at a meeting next week.
“It was a difficult decision – all five candidates are excellent people and excellent politicians – RMDSZ President Hunor Kelemen said after the vote.
