In 1949, most of Transylvania’s aristocrats were dragged from their beds and loaded into lorries. When they returned in the early days of 1990 they found their properties to be in the hands of the Romanian state.
The process of restitution lasted decades, and for some the struggle continues to this day…There are also success stories, though, and the castle tours organized by the Transylvanian Carpathia Society feature some of these.
