Two universities from Romania, the Babeş-Bolyai University of Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca, and the University of Bucharest has been included in the list of the world’s best-known universities, the Shanghai Ranking.
The BBU was ranked in position 701-800, while the institute from the capital in position 901-1,000. The Shanghai Ranking lists the world’s top 1,000 universities. According to this year’s list the best three institutes are: Harvard University, Stanford University and the University of Cambridge.
Compared to previous years, both Romanian universities have fallen significantly behind. In 2017 and 2018 BBU was ranked in position 601-700, while the University of Bucharest was ranked last year in position 801-900.
Other universities from Eastern and Central Europe appear on the list: 5 institutes from Hungary, 9 from Poland, 7 from the Czech Republic, 2 from Serbia and 1 from Bulgaria made it into this years ranking.
