Secretary of state involved in road accident dismissed by PM Ludovic Orban

Apparently the New Year’s Eve party is still ongoing for the state secretary of Romania’s Ministry of Transport. According to sources cited by Tion.ro, freshly appointed Valeriu Lupu was involved in a road accident this Friday in Temesvár while driving his official government car and refused to take a breath test.

According to Tion’s sources, Valeriu Lupu hit a properly parked car on Behela street. Witnesses called the police because they believed the secretary had been driving under the influence of alcohol. But when officers arrived, Lupu refused to take a breath test as well as a blood test.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. However, since Lupu would not comply with the police officer’s request – perhaps due to his impaired state – he will end up with a criminal record. Furthermore, the ink had hardly dried on Lupu’s paperwork when Prime Minister Ludovic Orban decided to dismiss the new secretary of state, who now has plenty of time to consider what went wrong.
