Romanian who duped Senate president escapes justice

Romanian police issued an arrest warrant against a man who last year defrauded the President of Romanian Senate Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu of EUR 14,500 ($16,483) with the pretext of selling him a used Mercedes.

Zsolt Kocsis (52) was convicted last December for taking the amount from Tăriceanu but never delivering the car – which wasn’t even in his possession. He should have begun his one-year sentence but failed to show up. The court also ordered him to repay EUR 6,000 in interest for the fraud which was committed in 2012. The man is said to have fled to Germany
