Record number of daily coronavirus infections in Romania

As many as 1,504 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Romania in the last 24 hours, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Thursday. As of Thursday, 83,150 cases had been confirmed in the country, and 38 people infected with the novel coronavirus had died, bringing Romania’s death toll to 3,459. Meanwhile, as many as 36,677 people have been declared cured, while active infections increased to 43,014 on Thursday from 41,939 on Wednesday. A total of 492 patients are being treated in intensive care units (ICU), and 25,052 coronavirus tests were conducted within a period of 24 hours (Wednesday to Thursday).

As many as 1,504 new cases of people infected with the coronavirus were recorded since the last report, following tests carried out at the national level, reported the public the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) on Thursday.

Including the new cases, the number of infected people has now risen to 83,150, while as many as 36,677 people are fully recovered and another 10,130 asymptomatic patients were discharged 10 days after detection.

There are 7,288 people with COVID-19 being treated in healthcare facilities, and 492 out of them are  in ICU. In the territory of Romania, 11,351 people confirmed with the coronavirus infection are in home isolation, and 5,654 are in institutional isolation.

According to the GCS data, 38 fatalities had been reported in the previous 24 hours: 22 men and 16 women. (With these, coronavirus-related deaths increased to 3,459.) One death was registered in the 30-39 age group; six, 50-59; seven, 60-69; 13, 70-79; and 11, 80+. Furthermore, 37 out of the 38 deceased had medical preconditions, meaning no comorbidities were reported for only one of the them.

Nearly 800 fines have been applied

Within a period of 24 hours, law enforcement workers also imposed 782 fines, amounting to RON 252,651 (EUR 52,230), as a result of violations of the specific measures put in place to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Distribution of new infections by counties:

The areas with the highest number of newly confirmed cases of coronavirus versus the previous reporting period are the City of Bucharest (236) and the counties of Prahova (87), Bákó/Bacau (84), Vaslui (74), Bihar/Bihor (71) and Iaşi (71). Most of the total cases reported thus far are in Bucharest (10,362) and in the counties of Suceava (5,196), Argeş (4,935) and Brassó/Brasov (4,392).
