Cultural institutions from Hargita/Harghita County, in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, will offer a wide variety of programs between May 31 and June 8, a period that includes Pope Francis’ visit to the Csíksomlyó/Șumuleu Ciuc pilgrimage site and the 453. Pentecost Pilgrimage.
In a press conference announcing the programs, Csíkszereda/Miercurea Ciuc city mayor Róbert Kálmán Ráduly said the city will be host to a variety of events, including, but not limited to, rock and symphonic concerts and folk dance shows. He highlighted events such as the Legyetek jók (Be good) theatre play from the Hungarian Theatre, in which the lead is played by renowned Hungarian actor Károly Eperjes. But that’s only one of the major events, because there will also be exhibits, and both the Csíki Játékszín and the Hargita National Szekler Folk Dance Ensemble will have their turn in the spotlight in the series of cultural events taking place during the aforementioned period.
Tickets are available online through the bilete.ro website for the shows hosted by the Csíkszereda/Miercurea Ciuc City House of Culture, and at the Trade Union City House of Culture.
Since the county’s festive days fall in this period, Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council, has promised a diversified and rich program that includes more than 100 events in Csíkszék alone, but Udvarhelyszék and Gyergyószék are also making arrangements. In other words, pilgrims arriving in Harghita County during the period will have the opportunity to pick their favorite in various places in the county.
The actual program is yet to be finalized, and the organizers have set a March 29 deadline for all NGOs who want to participate.
