A mass brawl broke out at London Luton Airport on Friday between Romanian citizens. Three passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and 17 were arrested after; police have charged 11 of them with violent disorder, reported the BBC.
Four people were injured, three seriously, in the brawl, which happened in the airport’s main departure lounge on Friday morning.
Police charged 11 men, aged between 20 and 55, with violent disorder after the fight, but they were then released on bail ahead of a court hearing. Five others were released without charge, and another was released on conditional bail.
An airport spokesman told the British newspaper The Independent:
“We are shocked and saddened by this incident. We take a zero-tolerance approach to violence and continue to assist the police with their enquiries. We would like to apologize to any passengers affected.”
Romanian news channel Antena 3 also reported about the incident, mentioning that all participants in the fight were Romanian citizens.
