International gathering of guitar virtuosos in Transylvania

The Harmonia Cordis International Guitar Festival will be taking place for the 16th time August 10–15 in both Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș and Székelyudvarhely/Odorheiu Secuiesc, and this year’s events promise some real fizzle.

Last year, the Harmonia Cordis International Guitar Festival was organized while strictly following all pandemic regulations – with unexpected success.

“Last year’s edition got very positive feedback, and we would like to bring that atmosphere back,’’ said Beke István Ferenc, the main organizer of the event.

The advantage of linking the events in the two cities is that it is more cost-efficient and the festival can be organized from project-based funds so it remains free, without any entrance fees.

The program is really colorful this year; besides artists from Romania and Hungary, there will be guitar virtuosos performing from Italy, France, Russia, Brasil, Croatia, Turkey, Canada and Portugal — 70 altogether. Samuelito, the flamenco performer, and Alexandr Misko, the Russian fingerstyle acoustic guitar player, will also be among the performers.

The concerts of the event are also free this year. In Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș, the performances will be held in the Fortress every night at 7 p.m., while in Székelyudvarhely/Odorheiu Secuiesc, the concert hall of the Community Center will house events from 6 p.m. every night. The complete program of the festival can be found at www.harmoniacordis.org.
