Four Romanian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan

Four Romanian soldier had been injured on Saturday in Afghanistan, when their patrol vehicle was hit by an explosion from an IED (improvised explosive device) and subsequently came under small arms fire from insurgents, the Defense Ministry announced.

The unit eventually repelled the attack with ground and air support from U.S. units, the Defense Ministry said. All four injured are in stable condition and are being treated at the hospital of the Kandahar Air Force Base.

Data from the Romanian Defense Ministry show that currently the country has 974 troops serving in various NATO, European Union and United Nations missions around the world, most of them (690) performing guard and patrol duties in Afghanistan.
