Fifth Castel Classic Rally to start in Maros/Mureș County

For the next two days locals in Maros/Mureș and surrounding counties can enjoy the sound and design of vintage cars, thanks to the organizers of the fifth Castel Classic Rally. The race will kick start in Marosszentgyörgy/Sângeorgiu de Mureș, and includes more than 60 classic cars from four countries. The main goal of the rally is to attract visitors and racers to Transylvanian castles.

When you think of a race, you’d expect high speeds and burnouts. However, that’s not the case when it comes to classic cars. The Castel Classic Rally is a regularity rally, where the main goal is to drive each segment of the course, which leads through wonderful landscapes on public roads to Transylvanian castles, in a specified time at a specified average speed. Drivers need to be very precise throughout the course, because the winning spot goes to the most accurate racer, Róbert László, president of the Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș-based Classic Car Club and leader of the two-day event, told Székelyhon.

This year, there will be more than 60 vintage cars in the race, he added, with the majority coming from Hungary, Ukraine, and, of course, Romania. The event will start on May 24 with an old-timer car and motorcycle expo in the courtyard of the Apollo Hotel in Marosszentgyörgy/Sângeorgiu de Mureș. The first day of the race will start in the afternoon. The course goes through Nyárádszereda/Miercurea Nirajului, Kelementelke/Călimăneşti, Bözöd/Bezid, Szováta/Sovata, and Szászrégen/Reghin, with the finish line being in Marosszentgyörgy/Sângeorgiu de Mureș. On the second day of the race drivers will reach Zsidve/Jidvei and Erzsébetváros/Dumbrăveni, and then head back to the finish line, which will also be in Marosszentgyörgy/Sângeorgiu de Mureș.
