Case study prize won by Transylvanian students in D.C.

With an outstanding professional performance, the four-student team from the Babeș-Bolyai University Faculty of Economics and Business Administration won the “runner-up” prize for their online case study in a competition organized by Georgetown University in Washington.

The team, consisting of Ferenc Domokos Ferenc (Management, 2nd year) Csenteri András Gergely (Economic Informatics 2nd year), Ákos György (Finance, 2nd year) and Réka Izsák (Finance, 3rd year), was awarded at the McDonough Business Strategy Challenge held February 2-6. A total of 19 world-class universities from America, Europe, Asia and Australia participated in the competition. The team from Babeș-Bolyai University in Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca was one of three teams from Europe. The Hungarian students beat out rivals from universities such as City University of Hong Kong and Universidad Panamericana. The final was won by the team from the University of Toronto, Canada.

The students participating had to develop a comprehensive strategy for the American non-profit organization Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health.

Besides winning the “runner-up” prize at the prestigious event, the Babeș-Bolyai University team also won a special prize — the “People’s Choice Award” based on a public vote — for the best introduction video.

The teachers who prepared the students for the competition were Levente Szász PhD, Lehel-Zoltán Györfy PhD and Béla-Gergely Rácz PhD.

This was the second time that Hungarian students from Babeș-Bolyai University won a prize at Georgetown University’s online case study competition. In 2019, they won the same “runner-up” award.
