After a small bear, who had appeared at several locations in Csíkszereda (Miercurea Ciuc) and Csíksomlyó (Șumuleu) last week, was shot down on Saturday, another one appeared on the streets of the town on Monday night. This bear even walked into the city center, to Szabadság Square.
Last week, Csíkszereda residents were warned four times because the animal was seen close to the Csíksomlyó mineral water spring, near Márton Áron High School, and also on Hunyadi János Street. The young bear was caught and isolated by the authorities late Sunday evening in the High School’s garden, where hunters later shot down the large-game animal.
But the threat to the residents of the chief town of Hargita (Harghita) County did not disappear. Monday night, the people of Csíkszereda received yet another warning through the Ro-Alert System to their mobile phones about a bear sighting in the town.
An eyewitness called the 112-emergency number immediately after seeing the animal in the roundabout of Márton Áron, on Decemberi Forradalom and Hunyadi János streets, near the Reformed Church, and in front of the Nagy Imre Elementary School on the sidewalk
The bear continued his walk towards Temesvár Avenue and after crossing Kossuth Lajos Street, even ran across Szabadság Square, the main square of the Szekler town. (szekelyhon.ro)
