Babeș-Bolyai University – best Romanian university, again

Out of the higher education institutions in Romania, Babeș-Bolyai University got the best assessment score in the ranking list of the Times Higher Education (THE). On the ranking list of the prestigious Times Higher Education published on the 28th of October 2020 Babeș-Bolyai University appears in 9 academic fields out of 11. In 8 fields it is the first on a national level, on 5 it is the single one appearing on top of the list out of the Romanian universities without sharing its position with other institutions – the University shared the information on its Facebook page. According to the news published Babeș-Bolyai University occupies the most fileds and highest ranking on the list of the prestigious a Times Higher Education.

From the 11 academic fields analysed  in the ranking list of Times Higher Education (THE) Babeș-Bolyai University was placed as first from Romania on 9: In some cases it figures as the only Higher Education institution in Romania: 1.Psychology, 2. Education, 3. Arts and Human Sciences, 4. Engineering and Technical Sciences, 5. Physics, 6. Life Sciences, 7. Computer Science, 8. Economic Sciences and Enterprise, 9. Social Sciences.

“I am confident that that the Legal Education of Cluj-Napoca will be the first Romanian program of Legal Sciences that in the future will also make it on this list of reference value. Beside the prestige the rankings are important to us because they help us set an objective diagnosis and plan ahead to raise the competitivity of the university community, that of the city, of Transylvania and of the whole country”, said professor Daniel David, rector of the Babeș-Bolyai University.

The British Times Higher Education (THE ) is one of the most comprehensive and most prestigious international rankings of universities, that considers both educational and research criteria and also the relationship with the socio-economic environment and international relations – says the statement of the Babeș-Bolyai University.

Babeș-Bolyai University of Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, Romania has the oldest academic/university tradition in Romania and it is the largest university of the country.

The University was founded on May 12, 1581, when István Báthory,  Prince of Transylvania issued a Diploma founding the  Major Jesuit College in Cluj (Academia Claudiopolitana Societatis Jesu). The founder wished this Major College to be an institution similar to established universities of the time, to include courses in Grammar, Humanities, Rhetoric, Philosophy, and Theology. In this college Latin, Hebrew, and Greek were taught and graduates could earn the titles of Baccalaureus, Magister and Doctor.
