Preschoolers under the age of three are also entitled to kindergarten support, says a recently announced law regarding the regulation of kindergarten groups in Romania.
President Klaus Iohannis promulgated the law, which states that kids can be legally registered for kindergarten from the age of two on request of the parents and depending on spaces available. This means that the municipality will also get the support needed for children under the age of 3, that is, they will receive funding for the salary of staff from the Ministry, so local governments only have to deal with the maintenance and administration of the buildings of the educational institutions. Until now, this support was given only to children who were 3 years old and above, although there were many situations, if the number of spaces allowed, when children below 3 were also taken into kindergarten classes.
The legislation just announced would remedy this gap (for children between the age of 2 to 3 whose parents must work and thus need daycare) starting this autumn.
The 2019/56 law also guarantees that every 5 year old must be accepted into the last year of kindergarten, this being part of the obligatory education. Thus, starting this autumn, 5 year olds will also be obliged to attend preschool. Those who were born between September 1, 2014, and August 30, 2015, and have never attended preschool will be registered into the last year of kindergarten depending on the location (where they live or to other empty spaces on request).
