The representatives of the Ministry of Health communicated that there were alerts in Temesvár/Timișoara, Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca, Konstanca/Constanța and Bukarest/București of infection with the flu originating from China (coronavirus), but all of these alerts have now been removed. Concerning the homecoming musicians of the Banat Philharmonic that were on tour in China, the Ministry of Health communicated that, up until this day, there has been no suspicion of pneumonia from the new coronavirus within the group.
A couple of days earlier, local authorities in the western Romanian town of Temesvár /Timișoara expressed dismay that a 50-strong philharmonic orchestra returning from China had not been submitted to any medical checks for signs of the coronavirus upon its return from the Asian country.
In an interministerial committee responsible for the monitoring and management of potential infections with the new coronavirus, the Ministry of Health communicated that all those having arrived into Romania from the geographical area of China have been monitored based on epidemiological criteria.
“There were alerts in Temesvár/Timișoara, Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca, Konstanca/Constanța and Bukarest/București, but all of them were canceled. Also, special measures will be taken for the folkloric ensemble of Mioveni, consisting of 25 people who are in Beijing, China, right now and will arrive to the Otopeni airport on Tuesday at 15:00. Officials from Romania have already contacted them,” the representatives from the Ministry of Health stated.
The officials also communicated that the health status of the individuals of the philharmonic orchestra, which has already returned from China, is being monitored on a daily basis.
According to the Ministry of Health, the first suspicious cases will be directed towards the National Institute of Infectious Diseases “Matei Balș,” where they will be isolated for specialized care.

Scientists have yet to fully understand the destructive potential of the new virus, known as 2019-nCoV. Researchers and investigators are just beginning to figure out where it originated, how it’s transmitted and how far it has spread.
Chinese authorities confirmed that health workers have been infected with the virus, suggesting that human-to-human transmission is possible.
