Black Sea summer vacation package prices up 40% from July 1

The summer holiday is upon us, and so are the price hikes of summer packages: Accommodations in the most sought-after holiday destinations in Romania, the Mamaia and Eforie Nord beaches, are increasing their prices by 40 percent, starting July 1, according to a tourism agency CEO.

Lucian Badircea, CEO of IRI Travel, explains the changes affecting tourists looking for an accommodation on the Romanian shores of the Black Sea: A summer holiday package for five nights (breakfast included) at a three-star hotel was RON 670 (EUR 136) per person but jumped to RON 890 (EUR 180) per person as of July 1.

“The most sought-after place remains the coast, especially at the Mamaia and Eforie Nord resorts, but the demand is also high for the Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Neptun-Olimp summer resorts.

Félixfürdő/Băile Felix, Herkulesfürdő/Băile Herculane, Călimănești, Căciulata and mountain resorts in the Prahoval Valley are also popular among tourists,” Badircea told Romanian news portal news.ro, as cited by Ziare.

Stars make the (price) difference

While the summer holiday package cost was RON 260 (EUR 53) per person in June in Mamaia, this changed to RON 400 (EUR 82) on July 1. For a three-star hotel, the same package costs RON 990 (EUR 200), and it costs RON 1,590 (EUR 323) per person at a four-star hotel. For five-star service, tourists will need to shell out RON 3,200 (EUR 650) per person if they choose to spend their summer vacation on the coast in July or August.

For the same five-night period with breakfast included, Eforie Nord accommodations have prices ranging from RON 375 (EUR 76) per person for two-star hotels up to RON 550 (EUR 112) for three-star service.

Tourists looking for budget-friendly accommodations are encouraged to head to the Jupiter, Venus, Saturn or Neptun resorts, as the same package costs a maximum of RON 500 (EUR 101) per person at a three-star hotel and RON 132 (EUR 268) at a four-star hotel.

Prices will likely drop by 25–30 percent after August 20, according to Badircea, followed by more affordable prices in September.
