Starting this Friday, May 7, people in Romania who want to be vaccinated can go directly to the vaccination centers, no registration or appointment necessary, announced the president of the anti-coronavirus campaign coordination committee at a Tuesday press conference.
According to Valeriu Gheorghiță, no registration or appointment will be needed for vaccination starting this Friday. Those over the age of 60 can simply go to the centers from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., while people younger than 60 can show up between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. He stressed that priority will still be given to those who made an appointment via the online platform; everyone else will be vaccinated only during the remaining available time slots.
“If a center can vaccinate 100 people daily and has 50 people scheduled, it will issue vouchers for 50 people.
Those who arrive above this number may eventually be placed on a
separate list and can return the next day or the day after that.”
– explained Valeriu Gheorghiţă.
Gheorghiţă also said that there is a clear prospect of starting the vaccination of 12-15-year-olds this summer using the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. He recalled during the press conference that Pfizer BioNTech had already submitted all the necessary documents to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in order to obtain authorization for the administration of their vaccine to this age group.
According to the Romanian vaccination campaign coordinator, the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will grant the authorization for this age group in a couple of days, while the EMA will do it in June. “So we have the long-term prospect that starting this summer, we can vaccinate 12-15-year-olds,” Gheorghiţă said, emphasizing that obviously only those children will be vaccinated whose parents have granted their approval.
