The Easter Fair in Székelyudvarhely will take place this weekend on Márton Áron Square; however, the cultural and leisure programs are canceled.
On Saturday and Palm Sunday, March 27–28, the fair will be open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. A total of 62 vendors applied to be at the fair, and Noémi Zörgő, the city hall spokesperson, confirmed that there will be vendors offering fruit and honey, meat products, cheeses and pastries. There will also be craftsmen who will be selling Easter-related products.
City management is not canceling the event despite the fact, that in the last couple of weeks, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Széklyudvarhely/Odorheiu Secuiesc has been on the rise again: Based on county laws, the city continues to be rated as green. On Sunday, the infection rate in the city rose above the limit of 1.5 cases per 1,000 inhabitants and was exactly 1.5 on Tuesday.
In light of the above, city management strongly requests that visitors to the fair comply with the county’s epidemic regulations: There must be a distance of 2 meters between vendor tables, a maximum of 6 people can be at the same table (if they are not from the same household), and hand-sanitizing and proper mask-wearing are mandatory.
Last year, most of the traditional, festive fairs were canceled because of the pandemic, so local artisans and producers turned to city hall with a petition. In December, they received permission to hold a two-day fair and – thanks to the low infection rate – all other monthly fairs were held.
There will also be an Easter Fair in Gyergyószentmiklós/Gheorgheni on Saturday. The advantage of the Easter Fair is that people can purchase quality products from local producers, various foods for the holiday, gifts and decorative accessories. Artisans will also be selling woven baskets.
