According to the decision of the Senate of Babeș-Bolyai University, an independent Hungarian Film and Media Institute was created within the Theatre and Film Department. Hungarian-language film education at the university dates back to 2008 and will now function within an independent institutional framework, according to the statement released.
“In our institute, undergraduates can choose the specialty of cameraman or multimedia sound and editing, while students pursuing their master’s degree can learn about the art of short films. Currently, more than 54 students attend the Babeș-Bolyai University Film and Media Institute under the guidance of renowned local and international specialists. Among the institute’s associate professors are Géza M. Tóth, a director nominated for an Oscar and Golden Bear; Gábor Medvigy, film cameraman awarded the Balázs Béla prize; and celebrated Hungarian directors Sándor Csoma and Ábel Visky,” states the communiqué.
At the same time, the newly formed institute is launching a photo competition for students in the 9th and 10th grades of the 2020/2021 schoolyear with the topic: Life during the pandemic. The purpose of the competition is to motivate and support talented youth who are interested in photography and film.
