Current president Hunor Kelemen is the sole candidate for the position at the upcoming congress of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), the party said in a statement.
RMDSZ will hold its electoral congress in Kolozsvár/Cluj on February 22-23 and only Kelemen has submitted his candidacy by the January 8 deadline. In the past two weeks, most county chapters of RMDSZ have announced their support for Kelemen’s candidacy.
“Again, I am not vying for position: my task is to build a strong and brave RMDSZ”, Kelemen said in the statement. The statement said that under Kelemen’s presidency the multi-faceted organization has reached consensus on the most important issues.
If elected, this will be his third consecutive term as president. Kelemen (51) has a degree in veterinary medicine and philosophy and is a member of parliament for his party since 2000, twice minister of culture and has already served two terms as president since 2011.
