Current Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is leading among known candidates for this year’s presidential elections, according to a survey conducted by radio station Europa FM. He has a comfortable lead for now: 34.9% of those asked would vote for him, followed by former Prime Minister and current leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) with 12.9%, former Prime Minister Victor Ponta who has recently been cleared of earlier corruption charges with 12.7% and House of Representatives leader Liviu Dragnea, convicted for electoral fraud and corruption with 5.3%.
While the date has not been announced yet, the presidential elections will be held in November or December. Under the Romanian constitution Iohannis is eligible for a second and final term.
