According to plans, the indoor ice-skating rink in Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu Secuiesc) is going to open early this month. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the venue was remarkably successful last season, with more than 32,000 people purchasing tickets to enter until the forced closure of the rink in March.
There are still some ongoing renovation projects outside of the rink, which should be finished before wintertime, Noémi Zörgő told szekelyhon.ro. The spokeswoman of the Székelyudvarhely Mayor’s Office also added:
This outside work does not affect the season-opening, so the preparation of the ice-rink itself has already started.
The town’s leadership wants to open the rink in early October, but the quality of the ice will depend to a great extent on the weather.
Similar to last year, the rink will be open every day from morning to night; community skating will also be possible both in the morning and the afternoon but will be interrupted by ice hockey training sessions.
Last year, the Skating School of the Székelyudvarhely Town’s Sport Club was also a huge success; about 1,000 children received lessons each week from skating instructors. If the pandemic situation allows, this program will continue this year as well, said Noémi Zörgő.

Last season, 17,850 children and 14,208 adults bought tickets to enter the venue, resulting in RON 213,498 (EUR 44,000) of income.
