In a premiere for its Romanian operations, the Renault Group has begun the assembly of Nissan engines, business news portal profit.ro reports.
Christophe Dridi, general manager of Renault Group Romanian said the engine was a light construction 1-litre motor with an output of 100 horsepower, intended for the Nissan Micra, adding that in the future it will also be used in other models of the car manufacturers’ alliance Renault is part of.
The engine will be built at Renault’s main Romanian automotive factory in Mioveni, just north of the south-central city of Pitești. Romania began its partnership with Renault in 1966, when it acquired the basic design and tooling for the Renault 12, which was produced under the name Dacia 1300 in various iterations for 35 years. Renault acquired Dacia in 1999.
In 2017, the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance had become the world’s biggest seller of light vehicles, overtaking the Volkswagen Group.
