Four of the people involved in a violent incident in Vajdahunyad/Hunedoara on Saturday were arrested and will remain in custody for 30 days. But this was not the only incident over the weekend in Romania. Authorities imposed nearly 3,400 fines countrywide on the night before Orthodox Easter.
On Saturday, patrolling police officers carried out an identity check in Vajdahunyad on a man under the influence of alcohol who did not have a valid certificate for being outside on the street. After handcuffing him, they tried to take him to the police station, but he resisted. Then, several acquaintances and relatives of his showed up, and things got very heated. The people attacked the police officers and gendarmes. They started throwing rocks at them, tried to break the windshields of the police cars and even broke off the cars’ side mirrors. In the end, four people were arrested and are facing charges of disturbing public order and committing a violent crime as well as an offense against public officers. (hotnews)
3,400 fines countrywide
Authorities imposed nearly 3,400 fines Saturday night – the night before Orthodox Easter Day. In 391 cases, the reason for the fine was the violation of the emergency measures, said Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) spokeswoman Monica Dajbog on Sunday.
On Saturday night, the 112 emergency line received 1,846 calls. Upon following up on the calls, authorities issued 3,384 fines and initiated prosecution in 234 cases, three of which were for circumventing the fight against the pandemic, said Dajbog at the MIA headquarters. She added that nearly 26,000 MIA staff, local police and military personnel had been acting throughout the country to ensure public order. (agerpres)
