A young man who admitted to adopting cats and then killing them has been sent to court in Temesvár/Timisoara.
The investigation into the case has come to an end, and the individual in question is facing disciplinary court for not only killing the animals but also for hurting and continuously torturing them. The case, from 2018, was widely presented at the time on TION.ro.
The young man, aged 22 at the time of the crimes, had adopted two cats from a woman in Timișoara. The woman wanted to see if the animals were okay, but the man was no longer answering her calls. She then went to his apartment, where she found one of the kittens dead and the other one very sick. Moreover, a third kitten that had not belonged to her was in anguish.
The woman posted the story on the internet, and it went viral, gathering more than 1,600 shares and 450 thousand comments in just a few hours. The police hopped on the case, but in the meantime, one of the two kittens that she found alive died as well. Initially, the individual told police officers that he was moving furniture around and a closet fell on the kittens. A couple of days later, however, he admitted to the police that he had intentionally killed the animals. He had adopted six kittens in total.
Almost two years after the investigation began, the individual has been sent to court as a free citizen.
On January 27, 2020, the Prosecutor’s Office of Timișoara ordered a search of the man’s home and that he be sent to court under suspicion of committing the crime of intentionally killing animals without right and hurting or continuously torturing them according to Romania’s criminal code protecting animals. The individual is alleged to have killed two cats by beating, strained one kitten’s leg and broke one of their ears.
All of this occurred in his Timișoara home between the 12th and 13th of June 2018. The investigation is now in its final stage.
