The faculty of Politics, Administration, and Communication Sciences at Kolozsvár-based Babes-Bolyai University came up with a unique strategy to motivate their students to get the highest grades possible: They will plant as many trees as the number of A grades their students receive in their first test period this year (via Transindex).
The marketing move works both ways: It paves the way for a sustainable future and also tries to raise the department’s level by increasing the number of A-grade students. As climate change has become a hot topic, each participant can contribute using their available tools. The university has chosen to go green and plant a tree.
This means that if a students gets three A grades, the faculty will plant three trees; if they get five A grades, five trees, and so on.
To have that tree planted, students need only show their exam certificate, and the university will take care of the planting through the TeamTrees project. By the way, the project was launched by Jimmy Donaldson (Mr. Beast) last October, as the internet had challenged Mr. Beast to plant 20 million trees by 2020 in order to celebrate hitting the 20-million subscriber milestone on YouTube. According to the initiative, for every dollar users donate to TeamTrees, one tree will be planted in a forest of high need around the globe.
So far, TeamTrees has planted more than 21 million trees, and German-born Canadian billionaire Tobias “Tobi” Lütke and Tesla’s Elon Musk are leading the list of top donors with $1,000,001 and $1,000,000 donated, respectively.
