Every second year, the Marosvásárhely/Targu Mures branch of the Transylvanian Carpathia Society (Erdélyi Kárpát Egyesület (EKE)) organizes a photo competition for its members called EKEArt. The aim of the competition is to show off the values of Transylvanian culture, nature, and traditions to the world.
The not-for-profit Transylvanian Carpathia Society was founded in Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca in 1891 with a clear set of goals formulated by the founding members: protect the natural environment, practice and promote hiking and ecotourism in general, and protect the region’s cultural and ethnic values.
Competitors had the option to choose from four categories: landscape photography, ecosystems and macrophotography, cultural heritage, and shapes and figures in nature. As EKEArt coordinator Sándor Sükösd told TransylvaniaNOW, they have received close to 400 images from Transylvanian hikers. It was a tough task to select the winners as well as another set of pictures – 94 images in total – to exhibit at the György Bernády Cultural Foundation’s gallery.
