The women’s organization of the European People’s Party, EPP Women has re-elected Rozália Bíró as vice-president at its recent congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Bíró is also the president of the women’s organization of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania.
Besides re-electing its officials, the main topic of the Ljubljana congress was the conference entitled Women first, but not against men, looking into reasons for women’s low participation in public and political life. In Europe the ratio of women among decision-makers is still under 33%, they found. Keynote speakers included Austrian minister for women, family and youth Juliane Bogner-Strauss and European Commissioner for digital economy and society, Mariya Gabriel from Bulgaria.
EPP Women has over 50 member organizations in and outside the European Union and as such is the largest women’s representation body since 1981.
